For years people asked why I liked Twitter. My answer: it was a place that reminds me how interesting, weird, funny, smart—and yes, sometimes even kind and caring—people are. Thanks, all of you. I learned a lot from you. If/when Twitter goes dark, I hope our paths cross again. ❤️

The relative silence from other groups re: AP African American Studies mess is quite... loud. Imagine a state trying to formally wipe Jewish history, Asian American history, or other marginalized groups from AP curricula. If they come for us, they can come for yall, too.

And they *will* come for everyone else.

“This interaction, when the person I loved and trusted most in the world told me very plainly that I was horrible and unlikable and causing her immense pain. This confusion, this string of insecurities confirmed and then weaponized, this silence, this mystery, this grief.” 💔

"It’s hard work, deciphering Colin Farrell’s expressions for answers, and every time I am on the verge of cracking the code, the credits start to roll." @jessikavbouvier on how 'The Banshees of Inisherin' made her reflect on the pain of a friend breakup: catapult.co/stories/bad-fr

We have to be united in our protest of censorship and in our fight for the freedom of ideas. This is about more than one politician or the AP curriculum. This is about protecting ourselves against creeping authoritarianism and all the discrimination that comes with it.

When there is progress, there is always retrenchment. There is momentum behind anti-racist and intersectional frameworks to help American students understand history and make sense of justice. The pushback now is from the forces that stand against multiracial democracy.

Six years ago, Trump officials held a Valentine's Day meeting in which deliberately separating migrant kids from parents was proposed. Thousands ultimately were. Two years after creating a task force to reunite them, Biden's DHS says over 600 have been, but 998 remain separated.

Let's not keep doing this: a Groundhog Day 🧵 about how to get past the COVID-19 pandemic. "COVID is never going away, so we should just learn to live with it". No, we can do better! There may still be much that can be done, e.g with vaccines (1/):

Yes. Confirming this, the head of the supervisors of public school libraries can't get clarification in writing from the DeSantis administration on how his directives apply to them. Again, the vagueness is the point. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/

Republicans like to focus on the fact that there are no official lists of "banned" books. This is a distraction. With a group of QAnon-poisoned senior citizens breathing down their necks, teachers are going to be afraid of letting kids read any books. salon.com/2023/02/03/cal

Yep. Imagine dealing with a once in a century pandemic, with a million-plus death toll despite mild restrictions and effective vaccines, and coming out the other end as a country *less* prepared for the next pandemic, and anti restrictions and anti vaccines. You can’t make it up.

The funny thing is that there will be another pandemic in our lifetime, and chances are it will be worse that COVID. This has become so politically charged that a large swath of the population will think it’s a hoax and society will suffer tremendously. twitter.com/MRobertsQLD/st…

Wait, this woman saw this man as just a friend and he didn’t accept this… so he harassed her, bullied her into attending counseling sessions with him (for a year and a half!) and when she finally said, enough, sued her for inflicting “emotional damage” on him. The entitlement.

Being emotionally disengaged. Even when it’s appropriate to be emotional about a subject. For example, when people who don’t deal with a type of oppression are able to keep their cool in an argument, while the oppressed person is in hysterics about their own dehumanization.
