I bet homelessness is inevitable when housing is treated absolutely like a commodity. If everyone practiced good hygiene and worked hard, there will be a group slightly more disheveled and slower than the rest who will inevitably be on a bottom rung priced out of the market.

The word 'mismatch' makes it sound like an error. What is happening is not an error. It is working as intended- extracting ever increasing returns from workers and leaving them more and more powerless and fearful and accepting the cruelty as the norm. This IS it functioning.

I think he is using the term in its literal sense, as in they don't match, not in any volitional sense. You are of course right that the mismatch is intentionally caused, and I'm sure Prof. Wolff does not disagree.
