The stakes are so high here, with desperate need for effective COVID-19 treatments balanced with responsibility to provide accurate information to a worried public. I don't understand why these researchers conducted an observational study instead of a randomized, controlled trial

I am a scientist but my area of expertise is the atmosphere...i’ll defer to these folks on the study
