Perfect example of the use of CPE (cytopathic effect) to note infection of cells by #nCoV2019 - lung wash applied to cells, 24 hr later, CPE! I can imagine their excitement. Viruses often (but not always) kill susceptible cells in tissue culture. When the cells start to die, they change appearance: rounding up and detaching from the culture plate (if adherent), breaking up/lysing, floating. That is called cytopathic effect, shown in the right image.
