I’ve not presented anything for many years. Yesterday shared the CFP for . My heart is tempted, my brain is overwhelmed & I hear an all too familiar humming: next time, who cares about what you’ve to say, look @ the amazing work of other presenters...

Last night, I read & learn from a convo between & . How 2 shift the conversation about a S in order not to take everything personally. Q: we’re usually so good with supporting our colleagues but do we have the same compassion for ourselves as edu?

Huge shoutout to K-12 educators. The amount of work, passion, compassion, learning, reflecting, growing that they take upon themselves is unfathomable for ppl outside this profession. Vous êtes formidables 💜

I’ve never liked the concept of “grit.” Reminds me of meritocracy & how it is used to stifle any conversation about inequalities & systemic racism. It perpetuates a deficit mindset where you feel guilty & ashamed of not being enough gritty

I see many W edu getting accolades for their work on & for being “woke.” Then I think about the EoC who are called “angry” & “defiant” for doing the same work. Work that they started many many years ago

Justice, not grit. Justice, not emotion regulation. Justice, not student mindset adjustments. Justice, not character education. Justice, justice, justice. Thanks for the shout-out, !

I’m always shocked at how people who have a critical understanding of race and racism neglect to consider how these operate in the realm of language.

WL educators, this thread is a must-read. If you’re planning to take your Ss to the Global South, the history & legacies of colonialism is not an obsolete past

Thank u for sharing your personal narrative. This 🧵 shows the hard work of ToCs to gain knowledge & address their own bias. This is a work of progress for ALL of us. It’s uncomfortable for ALL of us. It’s necessary for ALL of us

Social emotional learning has increased in popularity and adoption. But without an acknowledgement of the realities facing marginalized students—and teaching tools of resistance—SEL isn't enough.
