I missed the snitching incident yesterday, but side note: phrases like “worry about yourself” and “that they business” are pieces of black wisdom for the ages.

These were the Black folks I grew up with in Chocolate City. It was just Black love and Black joy and Black beauty and encouragement and creating a safe space in spite of what the majority was tryna do to us

In what ways do the lessons, films, and texts (essays, songs, poetry, primary docs, & more) we choose reflect the truths below? A good question for the classroom every day, even before the book (which we look forward to) is published.

It is an absolute honor for me, as well as a critical reminder of what matters as we shape our professional lives, to have this stellar graduate receive the Holloway Service Award. Congratulations also to the communities that nurtured Dorothy Alexis!

I want to write a history of black folks that takes account of our joy in spite of sorrow, accounts for the value of us making a way out of no way, and recalls that sometimes we aren’t thinking about white folks at all. We need to remember that history too.

Wonder if they are going to provide updates on just how mixed the baby appears to be to the naked eye. Perhaps reportage on the presence of melanin on the baby’s ear lobes or the current texture of the baby’s hair.

How easy it is—&what good publicity it makes—for U of AL to award an honorary degree roughly 60 yrs later to Autherine Lucy. Easy too for me to pop off on Twitter, but I have one rec: each inst. “atoning” for its racist past w/such symbolic gestures, shld pair them w/tuition $$.

I remember overhearing in my old office a conversation about a primary debate, expressing how presidential a candidate sounded. Of course they discussed a man. To their minds only men could sound presidential.

Yes, we are “angry,” “intimidating,” “difficult,” “cold”—this lexicon is old, long, and lengthening by the moment.

Oh, I’m fighting back with a fair use claim for exactly that reason. Copyright holders are supposed to consider overall value to the content, and whether it’s being used for education, criticism and/or comment
