"There’s just not enough of us left to die anymore.…We’ve been obliterated.” “without access to and rapid scale up of harm reduction and treatment strategies, the number of overdose deaths in B.C. would be 2.5 times as high"

Cannot wait until the book comes out! He’s changing the conversation and the language about some pretty important things as far as our opioid crisis goes.

Supervised consumption sites are essential, life saving services, that should not be dependent on t-shirt sales & private donations.

Over 14,000 people have died of overdose since 2016. It is a massive failure of our healthcare & public health systems that we lack stable funding for these lifesaving, evidence-based services. Instead, funding is based on the political ideology of provincial ministers of health

"In the United States, life expectancy at birth has decreased over the last three years, and many studies show that this decrease is linked to the opioid crisis."

Until the opioid crisis, life expectancy increased in every year since we started tracking it in 1921 It has now stagnated nationally for three years, and is declining among males in BC and Ontario with the opioid crisis as the likely cause

Happy to report that through fundraising and the successful renewal of our exemption from Health Canada, we will continue to operate through March 31, 2021!

Canada needs more. We are in a crisis: "these sites increase referrals to health services and long-term addiction treatment, while decreasing overdose deaths, public substance use and transmission of disease."

My amazing daughter saved the life of a young man on her way home after working a 12 hour shift at the in . Took 3 doses of Naloxone & CPR. Thankfully a nurse who was driving by stoped and took over calls to 911. Harm reduction workers are my heroes.

In a day not long from now, this kind of prejudice, discrimination, and vitriol against people with substance use disorders will be considered as wrong as racism and sexism by our society. We need to denounce it wherever it rears its hateful head.

“Trivial news stories which receive an overabundance of attention, at the expense of issues that truly matter and deserve the public's meaningful consideration…in 2019 alone about 12 people died every day from an opioid-related overdose”

Those are some insane numbers. I had no idea they were that many and particularly poignant with my nephew attending the funeral of his childhood best friend this weekend.
