It’s academic-writing-opinion time, folks! How do you feel about the use of first person-esqu voice in academic writing?

big agree here. I am actually trying to eliminate "we" for my writing. I have no brief to speak for others, and "we" feels like a form of exclusion, and not solidarity to me

Raises some issues for co-authored pieces too - grammatically correct but intensifies the questions/problems

So I use we mostly, I see it as an argumentative voice: we is myself and the reader, and I'm arguing the case - well or not - for how we should view the topic under discussion. I think people should write in whichever they're comfortable with but I don't see why we is a problem.

This is a really interesting point and not something I'd considered. Thank you for raising it. I've tended to use 'we' in the past to 'recruit' my readers, I suppose, as exhortative rather than constative, but I can see how this might also raise issues.
Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa
