👇why we need more public health ethicists! I often tell a story about a woman told to stop smoking by disparities researcher. Woman says 'I live a shitty life. Cigarettes help. Now I will live a shitty life longer bc doc says it's unfair I started smoking at 15.'

“It does not mean on its own that asymptomatic spread cannot or has not happened. Chinese officials have reported some other cases of asymptomatic spread.” I’d also say, she had MILD symptoms, the kind many go to work with... so still plenty worrisome.

Although I focus on stigma attached to NCDs, when I teach about the foundations of health stigma I often characterize it in terms of infectious and communicable disease. Why? B/c most people can so easily u-stand how stigma tracks ID. :-(

3 days separation from a newborn is not "brief." Not from an emotional perspective. Not from a perspective. Not from a perspective. A system that can wreak this harm on families over a few poppy seeds cannot be justified or ethically defended.

I look forward to the campaigns to ban poppy seed bagels because of the harm they cause to society (rather than, say, actually changing the policies that create the harm in the first place)

So important! We have talked about writing another paper specifically on “who does what?” between medical and social service providers in these kinds of partnerships, which is directly related to this question— Eg what do our data show about who should take the lead on what?

  18. Super important. There's an active, ongoing debate regarding the extent to which "clinical" entities should really be in the vanguard of collective action on . Some public health leaders are skeptical ...

  19. The distrust and doubt we integrate into the bedrock of our social policies is profoundly disturbing. Look how deeply these social anxieties are leveraged into our laws & policies. This is why we convened a Working Group to address this exact question.

A lot of students ask me if it’s “worth it” to get a PhD. It’s been almost 4 years since I graduated and the answer is glaringly clear now. No, it wasn’t worth it. At all.
