    Calling something terrorism = license for repressive governments to do whatever they like. And lots of Western partners happy to play this game.

    Saudi Arabia, our great partners in counter-terrorism in the Middle East, are trying Loujain for terrorism as a result of the below accusations and also because she applied for a job at the UN. It's almost like despots have learned to call everything they don't like "terrorism."

    One of the saddest aspects of life is when excellent people rule themselves out of various opportunities, whereas others - often the beneficiaries of great unmerited privilege - have an immense sense of entitlement.

    Advising a real star on LLM applications. She didn't apply for scholarship because she thought she wouldn't be competitive. She was so wrong: I cannot think of many others as qualified as her. Shame no one told her that before she crossed the age bar.

    The UAE is implicated in war crimes in Yemen, fomenting chaos and civil war in Libya, and has an atrocious domestic human rights record. Any transfers of arms to the UAE puts our interests and values at enormous risk. I vehemently oppose these arms sales.

    Senate opposition for U.S. arms sales to the UAE reflects a dangerous reversion to the Obama-era understanding of the Middle East and is a major early test for Biden. Does he understand how much regional alliances have shifted? More from me in

    It’s terrible to see such craven politics from Macron. Nothing honorable here. Yemen and now Egypt, sacrificed for the sake of arms sales.

    The rules of engagement were relaxed beyond Afghanistan too, leading to thousands of civilians killed by US actions.

    Does Macron believe that was fighting terrorism in arresting prominent human rights defenders from ? He knows better, both about them and the hundreds of others who remain unjustly jailed in dangerous, even deadly conditions while facing terrorism charges

    It’s unfortunate to see how Macron has failed to heed and important call for states to hold others abusing CT laws to account. Instead Macron frames human rights and CT as an either/or choice. It is not.

    These are so beautiful. My grandfather used to own a small set of movie theaters, mostly in Vijayawada. I remember visiting as a child, going up to the projector room, coming home with strips of celluloid in my pockets.

    Thank you . It would be more than nice if Obama was honest about the brutal legacy of the drone program he defends. Many of those who created, supported this program now on their way back into government. So is Obama saying, go ahead, pick up where I left off?
