    This would be *especially* awesome if all the data gets US Govt. public domain licensing, rather than the patchwork of restrictive legalese imposed by all the transmission orgs now.

    The is considering compiling and publishing a bunch of US RTO/ISO data in a standardized machine readable format. They've got a pop-up survey running on their website. We ran into it on the EIA860 download page here. Please fill it out!

    Random thought: We should rename Natural Climate Solutions into Natural Climate Mitigation. Even if we were able to reforest the whole planet, we would only remove 20 years of man-made emissions. The only viable climate solution is to turn away from a fossil-fueled economy ASAP.

    Good thread on writing as an assistant prof when your attention is being pulled in 10 different directions. I started 'blocking off days' for difficult writing a few months ago and it has been productive. It doesn't always work (like this week) but it has helped with my mood.

    There's great potential in the use of machine learning for a wide variety of weather and climate problems. Here's one example, predicting precipitation at much finer spatial granularity than traditional physics-based models.

    Today at the meeting, we are presenting research into precipitation nowcasting, which focuses on 0-6 hour forecasts with 1 km resolution and only 5-10 minute lag-time, using “physics-free” models. Learn all about it at .
