How does reading Haidt help here, though? I know people have different moral foundations, but we should rise above some of them, not? After all, Haidt's foundations are only *descriptive.*

But everyone still acts shocked that descriptively there's real variance on these moral foundations.

I read this book, and I'm nonetheless outraged. Perhaps I have a difficult time with the hypocrisy of appealing to group loyalty after draft dodging and subsequently criticizing war veterans' service.

Haidt’s Moral Foundations Theory is descriptive, rather than a normative theory. Using this logic, virtually any moral system can be justified. As Haidt notes in The Righteous Mind, the Nazis would score very high in the binding foundations.

The lessons of The Righteous Mind should be taught in age-appropriate modules of every year of K-12 education.https://areomagazine.com/2018/05/12/understanding-human-nature-is-the-best-way-of-fixing-our-political-culture/ …
