Furthermore, anyone motivated by the NY Times to assume that what I meant by "enforced monogamy" was anything other than social convention favoring stable pair bonding can think whatever they want, as they no doubt will anyway...https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson/status/998087424814256128 …

Do you advocate even stronger social stigma against people in polyamorous and open relationships, including continued stigmatization by therapists and clinicians? Asking for millions of friends.

It's a simple question about whether @jordanbpeterson advocating social pressure for monogamy also includes social pressure against poly and open relationships. The second seems logically entailed by the first.

It really is such a shame that his comments got blown up in a misunderstood way. This is a fascinating discussion when the point is properly understood. And your point is a a great one.

I'm very interested in the argument that widespread polygamy is bad for a society because of the surplus men. But I don't know if that's identical to what you're describing or whether it's ethical to promote monogamy even if it had a positive effect.

Polygamy is quite different from polyamory, but they both raise the issue of increased variance in reproductive success, and whether society should use force or social pressure to minimize that variance.

Poly is stigmatized. The question is what happens if it’s normalized. It’s natural for some men to identify as such (even if they aren’t) to satisfy impulse. Children are being raised in these communities. We need about 30 years of data to decide if normalization is good.

Oh yeah. I've read the papers showing neutral effects. Just wondering if you knew of research claiming any harmful effects.
