Furthermore, anyone motivated by the NY Times to assume that what I meant by "enforced monogamy" was anything other than social convention favoring stable pair bonding can think whatever they want, as they no doubt will anyway...https://twitter.com/jordanbpeterson/status/998087424814256128 …

Poly is stigmatized. The question is what happens if it’s normalized. It’s natural for some men to identify as such (even if they aren’t) to satisfy impulse. Children are being raised in these communities. We need about 30 years of data to decide if normalization is good.

@primalpoly do you think Polyamory is a game theory stable solution on a large scale? It seems to me it is likely to collapse towards polygyny and promiscuity. I have a few friends who do poly well(and very many more who do it poorly) but I'm skeptical of it as a broad solution -
I think it works for a minority of people with certain cognitive and personality traits. It needs more empirical research and game theory analysis for sure!

Not wanting to turn into a meme but can’t we have both? Polyamory and monogamy can coexist among consenting adults. I know I’m happiest in one type of relationship so I find a partner(s) who align with me. Then I stay in my freaking lane.

It occurs to me that the most robust part of Peterson’s argument would be best characterized as ‘polygamy is bad’ rather than ‘monogamy is good’. Monogamy is the most widely seen alternative to polygamy so it’s not surprising if that appears to be the obvious alternative.

What is the advantage to a society with polyamory? How does that society mitigate the problems that will arise out of less couple?
