what distinguishes Israel is refusal to define its borders, and infringement on the borders of every independent state in the region. the claim that Israel is protecting its borders in Gaza is disingenuous and self-serving.
Every state's most fundamental right is to protect the integrity of its borders. Strip away the borders, and you skin the nation alive. And flayed states tend to become failed states.

Israel evacuated it's citizens from the Gaza Strip in 2005 in order to define its borders. But as one can see from your reaction, this didn't help much.

Conservatives tend to focus on the rights and dignity of the nation as a whole, while downplaying the responsibilities of the nation to protect the dignity of the individual as a part (of the whole nation). Progressives tend to the opposite. Neither is integral.

The distance between this border and Israeli settlements is about 400 meters, the IDF had no choice but to do what is necessary in order to prevent the terrorists from reaching the homes in those settlements and attack civilians. Most of the non-lethal options are not effective
