I'm just looking at all these people running around on dates and going to parties and hikes and plays, and it's like... don't these people have planets to take care of? Aren't they afraid their civilizations will collapse into barbarism while they're distracted?

The sad thing is, the perpetual hikers & party-goers often aren't even enjoying it that much, but are conforming to lifestyle-consumerist indoctrination about what constitutes a 'healthy', 'fulfilled' life.

I feel like hiking is one of the least consumerist activities in modern societies. It's literally just walking around in nature

Fair point. I was conflating hiking with trail running, which is obvs just runaway consumerism. ;)
