Geoffrey Miller Retweeted Society for Cultural Anthropology

Academics who prioritize their pet political causes over empirical reality and theoretical consilience are betraying ancient academic values, and betraying the public trust by wasting taxpayers' hard-earned money and indoctrinating young people with divisive nonsense.https://twitter.com/culanth/status/992115815049670656 …

A good academic should compartmentalize his professional and his private functions, and not abuse the former in service of the latter. Much like a good public servant. The opposite is basically corruption and abuse of office.

Hmm i think its ok for a qualified academic to express the results of their research. You know, like in the dangers of smoking .. or climate change :)

If anything, "academics" should be primarily concerned with giving basic facts and helping students think critically without judging their conclusions. It's the lack of critical thinking that is causing all the chaos in this country.

I think the lack of factual knowledge, historical awareness, and useful mental models is just as harmful as lack of critical thinking skills. It's astonishing how little content is taught in public K-12 schools.
