But an AI-powered chatbot/sexbot could easily give verbal cues of acceptance, reassurance, sympathy, and love, much more reliably than a human could....
What's perverse about it? People watch TV to get the illusion that they have a social life; they play first-person shooters to get the illusion they're formidable; they give to United Way to get the illusion they're virtuous.
Then why do people pay a hundred bucks an hour to therapists for unconditional acceptance?

Look to Japan for the future of this. Virtual girlfriend software seems mainstream. For some reason there seems no "ick" attitude in Japan, and I love the country for it.
