I've noticed the discrepency. I want to know why it exists. You can't really ask people about their political affiliations during interviews.
The data were from voter registration records, not self report, btw.

This is what I would like to know. Does working at a University increase your chances of being liberal? Or does being liberal increase your chances of working at a University? Or is it extraneous variables: level of education, religious backgrounds, socioeconomics, etc.
