Is it your view that an individual's freedom of expression is imperiled when people who disagree with their views strongly express disapproval? How many is in a "mob"? What counts as "hate"? These aren't the terms I expect from a champion of free expression.

It's also funny because while Vox is happy to publish polemics, Ezra isn't the person who writes them. But Ezra's a hate figure now, because by being patient and non-confrontational for two solid hours he let Sam Harris show everyone what sort of person he is.

And this changed exactly when? Read up on some history. Job loss in academia for opinions is not something that just appeared. The Constitution does not guarantee you can keep your job.

I'm sure you've worked very hard at convincing yourself articles you disagree with must be written in bad faith. It's good to see people really challenging themselves.

You may be unclear about what "free" means. It doesn't mean an absence of social or economic costs. Whether it is just or not for institutions to impose sanctions under social pressure depends on the nature of the institution, speaker, and the substance of the contested speech.

I'm libertarianish. I write for Vox. The idea that it is "leftist" is risible. It has the politics of a typical urban millennials with a political science degree. It's basically a left-of-center online version of The Economist.

Ezra is one of the most intellectually open, honest and methodical people in all of media. Vox reflects that. We disagree about lots, and he's frustrating to debate, because he's good at it. But he's an exemplar of intellectually rigorous, civil discourse. Yet he scares you!
