Omitting the GRE isn't necessarily less valid admissions standard for some disciplines. This policy simply allows each graduate school to only require the GRE if it's deemed useful, while increasing the applicant pool. Seems like a good decision to me.

I've wondered about that trend. I personally don't support the GRE, but it could be the case that it has predictive value but only at higher-ranking Ivys and R-1s.
