I oppose firing people for controversial views, but it's odd conservative pundits have decided the lady who celebrated Barbara Bush's death deserves the most fervent defense.

There's nothing wrong with simply saying she shouldn't be fired. That's the correct position. But some of the folks are acting like this is Thermopylae and implying the Right is just as much of a threat to free speech as the Left. I just don't like the sanctimony about it
Fair enough. I just know within academia that it's really helpful to be able to point to cases where conservatives supported free speech even by the most obnoxious Leftist professors. It gives us ethical cred with administrators.

Too many to count. If there’s any reason she should lose her job it’s because she posted the hotline for her university’s student help line and goaded people to call it. Students who may have needed to use the line were unable to use it for legitimate calls for personal support.
