Which puts them in a strange position. Public or not: they still strive to get the best students, athletes, etc. What happens when a Prof says something that jeopardizes recruitment? Sullies reputation?
They have to suck it up, move on, build their brand in other ways, and make better hires next time.

Tenure? Or something deeper? To us, the latter, to her...well...does it matter? As long as what she says doesn't indicate incompetence, she should stay on. Though "competence" could be subjective.
