A lot of the problems with popular EP is when people use it to make normative claims. Implications for society are very rarely clear cut. People on the right often do the very thing Pinker et al accused social scientists of - committing the naturalistic fallacy
I've literally never read an EP researcher make normative claims based on descriptive research. Prudential advice, sometimes, but not ethically normative claims.
