I have a hard time believing database technology was the bottleneck preventing millions of people from manually entering and tracking data of hundreds of millions (billions?) of chickens globally.

Like the NAIS the added costs could very well put small farmers the ones with integrity out of business while the big corps which are producing crap food to begin with an even bigger advantage. No wonder they like it so much.
