A future in which humanity turns inwards is no future at all. Migrating humanity into the matrix is emphatically not a win. AR > VR. VR + Somatic stimulus = massive existential risk.

A good reason to simulate a VR multiverse is that it takes a really long time to travel across the real universe. Faster to jump to the interesting parts in VR. Von Neumann probes can do the dirty work of searching and reporting back.
