Every element of this is incorrect: "women... have a higher emotional intelligence: emotional intelligence is responsible for 58% of performance in all types of jobs, and 90% of top performers are high in emotional intelligence." http://j.mp/2Jmcaz1 pic.twitter.com/j0ITH7P33c

Why does corporate America still believe that 'emotional intelligence' is a thing? Or 'multiple intelligences'? Or Myers-Briggs? When did business become the island of lost toys for debunked, outdated psychology theories?

Could you expand on your criticism of emotional intelligence?

It's basically just an incoherent mishmash of general intelligence plus the Big Five personality traits of Agreeableness and Emotional Stability, IMHO.

Did you and Tucker Max ever discuss this on MG? He seems to be on that EQ tip

IIRC, we sometimes talked about building 'emotional intelligence' in the very loose sense of trying to pay more attention to other people's thoughts and feelings, not in the narrow 'EQ' psychometric sense.

Because of branding. It makes money, people like the idea, and it makes them feel like they can make up for other innate disadvantages.

Confirmation bias, when you drop money on a consultant or some team leadership conference, its going to take a lot to convince you that what you heard was bull

Same as “EQ”. An erroneous crutch for a politically correct world in which admitting that some people have higher IQ than others is forbidden unless qualified by something to boost ones feelings for hard truths.

For career assessments at UTEP we use the mbti and the strong interest inventory. Would you both suggest we change the mbti for the NEO or would you recommend another very brief personality assessment ? Thanks
