I agree and disagree with "learning styles." I think they exist but are not utilized appropriately--for one thing, I think it must be a spectrum, not a pigeonhole; the way it's used now seems to encourage people to shut their brains off if something doesn't "match" "their style"

At the same time, I'm so auditory--I don't forget things I hear/read, always studied by writing out long pages of notes. Visual information--graphs, diagrams--meaningless to me. But I was never told I *couldn't* learn some way. When a kid's told he can't learn, he stops learning.

@DrHowardGardner, a@PsychHarvard professor, created a circular, internally consistent model that didn't describe outside reality? Never heard of such a thing. This model won Gardner the 1987@APA William James Award, what do you mean "debunked"?Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Even if Gardner's theory is junk, that does not imply that there is one universal best "style" or that individualized optimization is impossible.

Here's the real question IMO..... is the way we're teaching children the most beneficial? I find that hard to swallow. Seems like sitting in a desk is not a great way for free little minds to engage with the world and learn.
