Is the modern world any less likely than ancient worlds to put real people very high on pedestals, to worship them as close to god-like? If so, what changed?
The status super-stimuli are stronger than in ancient times. Wealth, fame, & prestige can buy deity-perfect appearance, glamorous lifestyle, public recognition, and technological superpowers (private jets, media access). Modern Mount Olympus = Academy Awards, Davos, Burning Man
