I suspect it’s because for Goldberg, the only legitimate conservative is a Reagan Democrat or some form of right-leaning moderate. I can’t help but believe it’s because a large swath of conservatives reject the premise underlying Leftist identity politics.

And that's the problem, because the intellectual streams that sparked the electoral upset either reject the whole identity politics/systemic oppression/intersectionality theory, or they embrace identity politics equally for all groups. Neither are acceptable to MSM.
