Especially venture capital, I imagine.
Day to day, science is mostly a process of getting very excited about new ideas that seem cool and awesome, and then finding out that they're dumb and wrong, and feeling OK about that.

When I was 20, I organized a scientific panel in Leiden with the theme "Science as top sport". I had no idea how apt this metaphor would become.

only difference between the forward in sports who gets the glory from sinking most baskets, getting most goals, is that they're the ones that can recover from a miss in one to ten seconds. Everyone out there can shoot, just can't recover from a miss quick enough to shoot again.

Day to day, philosophy is mostly a process of being depressed and thinking there are no new ideas, and then rarely finding out that the old ones can be updated and catching a glimpse of something surpassing happiness.
