well, in many there is not a lesson learned from history but an abuse of history to propagate an otherwise ill-posed proposition. The implicit connection made between Nazis and people having a different view is a cheap shot and dangerous and I am sure you can do better.
How is it a 'cheap shot' to point out that gun control has often been used to disarm citizens, leaving them vulnerable to tyranny? That's _exactly_ the issue around #2A.

I've heard that argument quite often and I have the impression that this is just (American?) paranoia - at least I am not aware of tyranny being prevented by armed citizens.

if you are concerned about a tyranny, then studying German history of 1933 may help to better understand the political situation and how tyrannies are introduced "softly" without the needing to pick up a gun. Compare this to the first 100 days of Donaldo.
