One of my least favorite arguments coming from pro gunners during all of this is the semantic one. You'd be better served asking them about how many people rely on guns for work and food. At least make the lesson interesting.
It's not a semantic argument. It's a revelation that those people want to ban something that they can't even identify, explain, or define. How can that yield good policy?

But the back and forth about what "AR" means (Armalite) or whether or not an "assault rifle" exists is nothing more than a distraction. These children aren't writing the policy, the legislators are. They're just asking for consideration. Shouldn't we consider, then?

I would appreciate a debate about WHY nearly every adult over the age of 17 should have the ability to acquire a rifle capable of sending 30 or more high velocity rounds down range in under 30 seconds. That, as I understand it, is the meat and potatoes of the argument.

Respectfully, it absolutely is a semantic argument. They could very easily define what they're talking about by describing what it is: a weapon manufactured for the purpose of killing people. The specifics aren't the relevant issue, here. Access to high powered high cap guns is.
