All the 'Culture' science fiction novels by Iain M. Banks, especially 'Excession'. Inspiring, rowdy, funny, violent, righteous, and visionary. They're widely loved in Britain, but not well known in America.

I'm rereading Hydrogen Sonata right now, lol. His take on a post-scarcity society is pretty intriguing, even to someone who is a classical liberal. Many things become possible when government doesn't have to hold a gun to people's heads to get things done.
