There needs to be a balance between impulsive sexual gratification and stable trans-generational progress. If we honor our evolutionary heritage, then uncoerced mate selection, monogamous marriage, and paternal investment in offspring seem to be a good compromise.
I agree that no human mating system is sustainable if isn't pronatalist, pro-parenting, allows commitment and stability, etc. But still plenty of room for debate around these fundamentals.

I see monogamy as a parenting lottery with lifelong consequence to the unfortunate ones. Instead a self-imposed extended polyamorous family with multiple mothers and fathers would be more caring, secure and balanced environment for the offspring.

I'm just not that familiar with the dynamics of polyamorous families. But I do wonder if polyamorous families can be viewed as a sort of self-selected substitute for the traditional *extended* family household found in much of the non-Western world?
