I think 'manipulation' is influence without consent. Face-to-face influence is something we've evolved to understand, and resist or appreciate, and we can always walk away. Social media weaponization of psychometrics is something we don't understand or give informed consent to.

Interesting. I agree. But I wonder if there is really anything that can be done? A democracy can't really put these tools away - there is too much at stake. The 'will to power,' so to speak.
