Don't you have to be conscientious just to get into a university? Surely the more conscientious are getting better marks, preparing for grad school/professional school etc..
Depends on the university. Two big predictors of admission are IQ and conscientiousness. But many universities are very unselective now.

Yeah, that's a huge problem. Some unis in Canada have scandalously low entry standards for some programs, which helps ruin prestige associated with a degree, along with the actual program. many who scrape in don't complete their degree and leave saddled with debt.
