If you refuse to hear the strongest arguments against your position, you can't know whether your position is correct. Even worse, you can't even know the true nature, origins, and implications of your position.

Cool :) All that being said, I agree with you that sometimes this argument has gone too far and, as you pointed out, that this is bad for our thoughts (and democracy). So, I appreciate your efforts in that regard, and would like to say that 'Spent.' was a very well-written book.

Arran, I'm thinking maybe your applied a different definition to the word "strongest" (?). He didn't mean that old, ignorant or insistent opinions HAD to be listened to. He meant you need to expose yourself to counter arguments of your current beliefs that are "strong".
