Christian students, married students, and those with kids are suspected of harboring traditionalist, pronatalist, and/or gender binary attitudes.

Don't you have to be conscientious just to get into a university? Surely the more conscientious are getting better marks, preparing for grad school/professional school etc..

Depends on the university. Two big predictors of admission are IQ and conscientiousness. But many universities are very unselective now.
