Not the purpose. The purpose is a citizen militia subordinate to civil authority to execute the laws, protect against insurrection or invasion in defense of a State or the Nation. Read your Constitution Art. I. Sect. 8. Cl. 14-16. And subsequent State Constitutions of the time.

I understand and agree that the purpose of 2A *was* to deter tyranny and I keep asking people how effective AR-15s will be against AI powered drones, tactical nuclear weapons and tanks. @benshapiro did not have an answer. Do you?
