Sexist oppression by (80% female) public school teachers: playful, rebellious boys are punished and stigmatized; playful, rebellious girls are rewarded and validated. Insidious way to break masculine confidence as early as possible.https://twitter.com/Neuro_Skeptic/status/974981370136137729 …

I don't think it's quite as calculated as this implies, despite having a playful, rebellious boy of my own who gets punished and stigmatized - and I wonder if rebellious girls get rewarded and validated, really, this piece aside. Most schools now value compliance/uniformity.

I don't think it's calculated, but I think it is a side-effect of a sex ratio imbalance in teachers, a highly feminized public education system, and a demonization of normal young male behavior.

The public education system is most probably feminized because the economy prioritises communication due to the nature of most employment, which is service-based. Verbal skills less typically a male strength or preference, statistically. I think it's resource driven vs cultural

There is a growing focus on soft skills, but the bulk of feminization of schooling is a result of concerted effort to improve outcomes of female students, and to reductions in education budget (less resources for female teachers to deal with boys)
