Tens of thousands were fired upon in Vegas alone. Thousands lost loved ones horrifically. Take the injured, forever-scarred and grieving into account.
Yes, those are all horrid costs. But almost all deaths involve side costs on others -- those who witness drownings or car wrecks, family grieving while parent dies of heart disease, doctor's guilt if she makes a medical error, etc. Hard to add them up in any systematic way.
