What should we do about 'assault rifles'? American deaths in 2016 (most recent good data I could find): Heart disease: 633,842 Medical errors: c. 250,000 Motor vehicle crashes: 37,461 Work accidents: 5,190 Drowning: c. 3,500 Murdered by knife: 1,604 Murdered by rifle: 374

ah, so you're saying we need to expand gun reform to beyond just 'assault rifles' (in 2016, there were more than 38,000 gun-related deaths in the U.S.)

I'm implying that maybe 'gun control' advocates should pay attention to relative risks when suggesting policy interventions. That's all. If they want to argue for a ban on handguns, they can go ahead and do that.

The rhetoric pushed out by the anti-gun left is not necessarily correct either. To do a full comparison one would have to look at defensive uses of rifles to save lives as the 300+ plus caused by them. If an AR saves 2,000 lives a year is it worth banning?

The Second Amendment isn't about reducing net deaths. It's about deterring against tyranny and protecting citizen rights. Leftist 'gun control' advocates willfully misrepresent the whole point of #2A by framing the whole issue as some sort of public health concern.

Wait a sec, you just framed it as a public health concern with your original tweet!

No, I implied that if it was framed as a public health concern, it would get an extremely low priority since it results in very few deaths, relatively.

But those numbers don't justify doing nothing about this. We can focus on improving road safety, reducing heart disease AND common sense gun reform. Because those deaths are still important. It is possible to do more than one thing at a time.

Define “common sense gun reform,” in the context of “shall not be infringed.”

Destroying and suspending Constitutional rights out of fear has not worked out well for our country. Look at all the good was done when we locked up the shifty Japanese, NSA spyed on everyone everywhere and spied on that dirty MLK Jr. Movements matter more than rights.

If didn't see the "if" in your original tweet. I agree people freak out about mass shootings and terrorist attacks (and shark attacks!) which actually represent a negligible number of deaths.
