I read literally all of the books by Derrida and Foucault in college. I thought their style was cool, and could easily get an A+ on every term paper by emulating their rhetorical tricks, but realized their intellectual content was close to nil. Glad Pinker spared himself.
Derrida and Foucault were extraordinarily creative writers, and hugely fun to read if you're into that kind of thing. It's just too bad they didn't have anything clear or valid to say.

Foucault brought up criticisms that in French hold up, but not English. Gender pronoun problems are different in some languages. His remedies are what was wrong. Not just wrong, but intentionally wrong. That’s the real travesty.
