The Second Amendment isn't about reducing net deaths. It's about deterring against tyranny and protecting citizen rights. Leftist 'gun control' advocates willfully misrepresent the whole point of #2A by framing the whole issue as some sort of public health concern.

Sure, they might be half that high, or twice as high. Hard to estimate, and AMA has no interest in doing so. But very likely above 100k/year.

Is that about the nature of the crime, or the nature of the media coverage? If TV news got equal ratings from covering deaths caused by drunk drivers, or sleep-deprived medical interns, or shoddy work safety practices, wouldn't we be just as outraged?

We do have good historical evidence that tyrants almost always try to disarm civilians before they commit mass murder. That's the most important piece of evidence relevant to the whole point of
#2A. Not deterring isolated crimes.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Probably more like 40 million modern sporting rifles at this point. Not easily banned, bought back, or confiscated...

Maybe focus on decreasing all of them? This is a perfect red herring argument. Just because crime is awful in South Chicago doesn't mean we shouldn't fund cancer research.

You're literally saying you're opposed to prioritizing problems.
