The other two options would be subset of "self-defense" in my opinion.

Which is a big part of what this conversation misses. People do/should have a right to self-defense. Any plan to remove/limit access to guns must address this. In other words, what is your plan to secure each individual's right to protect themselves?

The point of the 2nd amendment is to guarantee every law abiding citizen the right of self defense. It doesn’t matter if that enemy is a tyrant or a thief. In the eyes of the Founders your personal right to defend life and liberty were of utmost importance.

Better to phrase as what was the purpose of 2A. When everyone had muskets, an armed populous could easily resist a tyrannical govt. With AI powered drones, tactical nuclear weapons, and tanks it makes no sense. Currently it serves no purpose but we can still have guns for fun.

It still serves the put of allowing the American people to protect themselves and others from home invaders or anyone who intends to cause harm.

All of the above. We must recall the historical context in which it was written. The type of arms were essentially uniformly available and a militia was viable against an authoritarian government. Today our attention to the 2nd Amendment is primarily focused on private ownership.

Increase uncertainty, risk, and doubt in the mind of an aggressor by allowing for the chance your victim or opponent may be armed, thus creating an incentive to avoid aggression before any action takes place.

if the framers had intended a reason other than Militia, they would have mentioned it too. The militiaa is proximate use 4 guns. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
