Centrism also makes sense if you're epistemically humble about an issue and know that you don't know enough to make a good judgment call yourself. It's Bayesian reasoning applied to politics.

Centrism is arguing for moderate expropriation or light genocide. It is the refuge of the socially anxious modern bourgeoisie. Philosophically ridiculous, socially convenient.
