Ah! Because they get in trouble using Facebook at work, and it serves some of the same purposes. Also, because orgs can't get their content through FB algorithms anymore and they need an alternative.
Personally,I ended up getting an account when at my co-op my fellow colleague got laid off and I realized I had no way to keep in touch with him.When I asked our manager if there was an email to keep in contact with the colleague,he said "Well yeah-he probably has it on LinkedIn"
The real question is why anyone would pay to use a premium account on LinkedIn.
