As an Indian studying in UK, I am appalled by the number of times I get attacked for stating mere scientific studies. I have more lively and open discussions with friends back home in India. Every word here in conversations is measured. No intimacy, no bonding, no connections.

I'm really sorry that the UK is so stifling. It wasn't so much in the 90s when I worked there. It can be very lonely and exhausting to self-censor all the time.

Great piece, and very true. Each country and culture has their own taboos and social rules, and it's easy for these to clash whenever one moves to a different country. If only people were more reasonable and open-minded so they don't misinterpret everything as harmful speech.
