As much as I wanted to do a takedown of this take, I think Jeff is right. It's more about the number of large independent working parts than it is about size of government. And TC seems to also be saying that, though his invocation of size was a little bit distracting.
In which @tylercowen argues that a vast, bloated federal bureaucracy is actually a good thing, because it might be more resistant to a fascist takeover. (Or maybe there's a way to deter fascism for less than $4 trillion a year?)
